At The Mayan Cacao Company in Cozumel, you’ll visit a traditional Mayan house, learn how cacao was used as currency, make a chocolate bar with traditional tools, and blend a chocolate margarita. Guides such as Angel, Roberto, Paty, and Eduardo lead the English-language workshop.

At The Mayan Cacao Company in Cozumel, guides such as Paty, Angel, and Eduardo explain cacao’s Mayan roots before you grind beans, add seasonings, and make a chocolate disk to take home. The 90-minute class includes ingredients, samples, and a playful hands-on lesson.
“A wonderful place to make your own chocolate bar with organic products. Eduardo was a fantastic personable host that showed us how to create our chocolate bar and then taught us how to create our chocolate margaritas which we enjoyed afterwards. Mmmmmm! We all went to their store to sample 16 different chocolate bars so of course we would find a favorite to purchase. Gift items large selection so we found additional gifts to take home. All wrapped ready for luggage trip home.”
At Stingray Beach, guides Wendy, Lucy, and their team lead you through Mayan chocolate traditions, hands-on chocolate making, and tastings of seven-plus Mexican artisan chocolates. You will also sample red and white wine, enjoy a chocolate martini, and take home your own creation.

“Adolfo was friendly and informative. He did a great job. I would say the car AC was not working but not a big deal. The tequila tasting felt like a really artificial experience. I think they built everything there and it wasn’t authentic. The chocolate making made everything worth it. Nancy was so sweet and patient.”
